HOMEWORK: WEEK of October 31 - November 4, 2011

Language Arts: Grades 5 & 6 - Book reports are due Tuesday, November 15, 2011;  The book of interest is about Helen Keller; a young girl who became deaf, un-able to speak and blind.  NO EXTENTIONS. 

 

Complete theSpelling/Vocabulary - Alphabetize, define, include the part of speech, syllabication, and the etymology for each word.  Write a sentence for each word.  Underline the spelling word in each sentence.  Label each sentence as follows: declarative, imperative, interrogative, and exclamatory.

 

Spelling/Vocabulary Words: Understanding Sequence - sequence, first, second, third, last, next, before, following, recently, earlier, later, finally, now, after, then, organizational, militia, replica, revolution, emphasize, lifeguard, asterisk, requirement, dagger, footnote. 

 

Write an essay about Halloween.  Tell about its origin; how it began, what the word means, and the language of origin.  Conclude with why we as a Christian Academy do not celebrate this culture.

 

Mathemathematics: Grades 5 & 6 Write number facts families for multiplication tables 1 - 6; DUE Wednesday, November 2, 2011.  Grade 5 - p. 97  problems 21 - 26 

 

Grade 6         Complete page 88 and do page 89 examples 1 - 12  

 

Christian Education -     Grades 5 & 6 - Quiz on the following:  the sub-category book of "The History of the Church" and "Paul's Letters."  Wednesday, November 2, 2011.  Grade 5 - continue to read about Joseph: Handling False Accusation - Genesis chapter 38.  Grade 6 - Continue to read about Luke.  Luke chapter 6.

 

Science - Grade 5: Research - Edward Jenner was a noted scientist.  Write about who he was; what he discovered and how that discovery effected humanity.  DUE - Wednesdayday, November 3, 2011 

 

Grade 6:  Research - What is a Geologist?  What are the tasks of Geologists? DUE - Wednesday, November 3, 2011

 

Social Studies:  Research - (Grade 5) "North American Indian Life: Early Civilization"

Thanks for your cooperation so far in this school year.  It is greatly appreciated and will benefit each family in the near and distant future. 

 

        We are rapidly approaching the some very special times of the year.  Therefore, please be apprised of the following events and dates:

6th - End of Daylight Savings Time (Fall Back one (1) hour)

 

8th   -Election Day   (School is open; City and School elections)

 

11th -Veteran's Day (School is closed)

 

17th  - Rev. Dr. West's Birthday Celebration and Thanksgiving Concert - 6:30 PM Sharp

ALL STUDENTS must be in attendance and will be performing. 

(You will receive further correspondence for this day of gratitude and honor)

 

22nd Thanksgiving Service & Feast  10:00 a.m.  (Parents please complete the menu that your child(ren) has/have brought home on Thursday, October 20, 2011.  Please return the menu complete with your choices of contribution by Monday, October 24, 2011.  (Please note that this event will also be a  service to our community)

 

 

23rd  - Thanksgiving Eve - Dismissal at 3:00 p.m.  (No After School)

 

24th & 25th  -  Thanksgiving Recess

 

28th  -  Return to school from recess and *Distribution of the  First Report Cards

 

29th  -  Parent/Teacher Conference -  4:00 p.m.   Dismissal @ 3:00 p.m.

 

30th  -  Parent/Teacher Conference  - 1:00 p.m.    Dismissal @ 11:45 a.m.

**Pencil Sharpeners are to be kept at home.  As a part of students' daily routine and homework assignments students are to prepare for the next day of school by making sure that all pencils are well sharpened and stored in their pencil case.  Further instructions will be given for nightly and other assignments.
